Exhaust

What architect thought it would be smart to put the parking garage exhaust vents on the usable 2nd level street front, immediately below residents windows? Close the window honey...

While its vents are not for car exhaust, and there's little chance for the hospital-bound to be allowed to open their windows to freedom, I have to mention St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital, at Division and Western, Chicago. The photos on this page honestly do not do justice to the monstrous and unmistakably menacing protrusions that are the air vents of the hospital, but they'll have to suffice. I recommend taking a peak at it in person when visiting.

I'd like to think that I'm not suffering any particularly excessive delusions, but regardless of how often I see this structure in person, I cannot help but visualize illness as its cartoonishly enormous vents expel - immediately above the entrance and across the grounds - the air that cycled through the halls of this house of healing that, in my opinion, could not look more excessively ill.
